Tune in for all of the best tips on Pinterest for photographers, blogging for photographers, and more!
This is a question I hear all of the time from photographers. “Is Pinterest worth it?”. I think when it comes to marketing your photography business, it’s hard to look at platforms that don’t bring you INSTANT GRATIFICATION. And by that I mean instant likes, views, comments, etc. We all want to see instant results when we share our content online. So, I think that’s where most of the hesitation comes from when photographers are weary to jump on a platform and spend their time trying to make it stick. Because let’s be real, time IS money. Your time is precious, so you want to know. Is Pinterest for photographers worth it? YES. Let’s dive into the why!
I want to start this off by saying that Pinterest is different. Your content can circulate for YEARS on this platform. More than a few hours or days *cough cough Instagram*. So you can create a huge portfolio of your favorite work and galleries, and then continue to have this circulating on Pinterest for years to come, drawing in your ideal clients. Need I say more? Don’t worry, I’m just getting started! 😉
When it comes to Pinterest, you need to stop thinking of it as a social media platform. Pinterest is NOT a social media platform. Pinterest is a visual search engine. So, think of pictures popping up instead of blog posts like they would on Google. Pinterest has 482 million users on their platform. That’s a ton. When you choose to start pushing your content out onto Pinterest, you’re expanding your visibility to those who are searching Pinterest and looking for inspiration for their weddings and/or engagement sessions.
And maybe you’re wondering if its location based or just more visibility in general. It can be both. I work with location specific wedding photographers, destination wedding photographers, and photographers who do a mix of both. Yes, we can target and attract your ideal clients in both a specific location AND across the globe, too!.
And of course, the main point of creating content on Pinterest is to lead people back to your website. That’s where all the good stuff is, am I right? Once users start to click over to your website, they can check out more on your portfolio, check out your blogs, and see more about what kind of services you offer, etc. By visiting your website, they get a better taste of who you are as a photographer, giving them the perfect opportunity to fall in love with you even more and fill out your inquiry form.
I know you’re probably thinking “do wedding photographers ACTUALLY get real bookings from Pinterest?” YES, why yes they do! I’ve helped wedding photographers book location specific weddings and destination weddings! Pinterest really is an untapped gold mine for photographers.
I’m talking about the freedom to only book the type of weddings you want. The freedom to niche down more. The freedom to increase your prices. Or even the freedom to have more time to do what you LOVE inside of your business which is to create art, not marketing, am I right? When you start marketing yourself on Pinterest, you are opening the doors to thousands and millions more couples finding your work and thinking “hey, I love THIS photographers style!”. Meaning you are increasing your chances of being seen by your IDEAL CLIENTS!
I don’t know what you’re thinking at this point, but I think Pinterest for photographers is ABSOLUTELY worth it. Not only are you showcasing your work to thousands and even millions more people. But you’re creating content that’s going to circulate for YEARS to come! At the end of the day, it’s important for every business to have multiple ways of marketing themselves. That’s why jumping into Pinterest is a good idea.
